We live in a generation where celebrities are massive role models. Celebrities have a massive responsibility to act in a way that promotes positive body image. Some celebrities that do act positively and want to make young girls feel like they can look however they want and still be successful. People like these girls are great role models as they are all extremely successful whilst maintaining true to themselves.
Jennifer Lawrence
Jen Lawrence personifies everything that all girls need to know. Jennifer refused to lose weight for all her movie roles and constantly pushed in order for her character in ‘The Hunger Games’ (Katniss Everdeen) to have a realistic body in order to promote positive body images in her fans.
Beyoncé
You can’t have a post about positive body images or feminism without including Beyoncé. Beyoncé has used her music to promote positive body images and ideas of feminism. Her most noticeable song about body image was ‘Pretty Hurts’. There are some standout lyrics such as “Blonder hair, flat chest/ TV says bigger is better/ South Beach, sugar free/ Vogue says thinner” or “Perfection is a disease of the nation”. In the video, Beyoncé highlights some of the pressures placed on young girls in order to look beautiful.
Rebel Wilson
Rumours were stirring that Rebel was to be the next Weight Watchers spokeswoman. Rebel shut this down immediately saying; “When it comes to body image, I don’t really care what I look like that much, and I think women out there should just be happy with the way they look. They shouldn’t really try to conform to any kind of stereotype. Just be happy and hopefully healthy.” Rebel promotes the importance of loving your self as you are.
